It's Not About Love is comprised of a grand opening, three acts and a grand finale. In total, there are 28 original songs in 24 scenes. The songs together with the music between the scenes totals approximately 110 minutes. The entire musical runs approximately 165 minutes (2.75 hours), including a 7-minute Intermission between ACT I and ACT II and a subsequent 7-minute Intermission between ACT II and ACT III.
The continuous indoctrination by the media that “marriage is about love” as told through books, music, movies, greeting cards and television shows is demonstrated in a humorous way in the song “It’s Not About Love” (1 scene - 1 song).
Act I – Getting Married
In this Act, we witness the thoughts and emotions experienced from being single, dating, meeting someone special, wrestling with the concept of marriage and getting married. (8 scenes - 9 songs).
1st Intermission (7 minutes)
Act II – Breaking Up
In ACT II, we witness the obstacles and issues encountered in marriage, how disappointment and the demands of daily life can result in frustration, and how partners can drift apart to where separation becomes the logical conclusion. (8 scenes - 10 songs).
2nd Intermission (7 minutes)
Act III – Reconciliation
In ACT III, we witness the sorrow and regret partners experience from breaking up. Then we learn the secret to success in romance and marriage and how that information can lead to reconciliation. (6 scenes - 7 songs).
The “Musical Play” concludes with the entire cast singing the song “It’s Nice To Be Together Again.” (1 scene - 1 song).
