Musical Play

Scene 1 – Set 9 (Mike and Jenny's Kitchen) – Song #21

JENNY is in her kitchen cleaning up dishes from breakfast. She is on the phone making plans for the day.

JENNY

Ok. I'll pick up Sara at 1:30.

Pause.

Right.

Pause.

No. I'm staying for the game. I'll see you when you get there and we'll take the girls for pizza afterwards, if that's Ok with you.

Pause.

Great. Oh. I have to pick up Matthew on the way to (Pizza Parlor). He will eat with us, and then I have to bring him to his game for 4:30. If I leave Becca with you at (Pizza Parlor), I can pick her up at your house around 7.

Pause.

Right. Ok. Great. See you then.

Jenny wipes the counter and finally sits down with a cup of tea. She stirs the spoon in her cup, deep in thought, looking out the window. The music starts to Song #21 – “You Don't Know.”

JENNY

Through my window.

Shines the morning light.

Just a memory,

The cold stormy night.

Like a spring day

After winter’s rage.

Life goes on and I’ve turned the page.

But you don’t know how much I miss you.

How much I wish you would wake me

to say you didn’t go.

You don’t know how much I want you.

How much I care.

Baby, baby, you don’t know.

Like my life.

My picket fence.

Needs a little mending

Trying to make some sense.

But I’ll fix it.

And now I realize.

Grass can grow as green on either side.

But you don’t know how much I miss you.

How much I wish you would wake me

to say you didn’t go.

You don’t know how much I want you.

How much I care.

Baby, baby, you don’t know.

Life’s not over. A new life’s just begun.

But you don’t know how much I miss you.

How much I wish you would wake me

To say you didn’t go.

You don’t know how much I want you.

How much I care.

Baby, baby you don’t know.

Baby, baby, you don’t know.

Baby, you don’t know.

Jenny drops her head slightly. End of Scene 1, ACT III.
